The Consulate General of the Netherlands in São Paulo is looking for a proactive, dynamic and service-oriented colleague who feels comfortable talking to both entrepreneurs and representatives of the public sector. A team player who wants to contribute to the position and visibility of the Netherlands in Brazil together with a lot of other colleagues in our network. Interested? A. General Information

Working Hours: 40 hours.

B. Tasks
The senior policy advisor will be responsible for trade and investment promotion activities including economic analyses and manage bilateral cooperation programs and visits.

Main Tasks

The senior policy officer:

collects information and writes analyses regarding economic developments, specific economic sectors and market access issues in Brazil, which are of relevance to the Netherlands;
advises companies and organizations on opportunities for business development in the assigned economic sectors;
advises companies on doing business in Brazil and provides support to Dutch companies and authorities who are or wish to become active in Brazil;
leads/joins the preparations for Dutch trade missions to Brazil and supports the missions in country. Contributes to the preparation of Dutch official visits to Brazil;
leads/contributes to the organization of trade promotion and networking events, such as conferences, trade fairs and exhibitions;
creates and maintains a relevant network; maintains up to date knowledge of assigned economic sectors;
participates in and represents the Netherlands in (external) meetings, panels, seminars and drafts speeches for management.

Dutch companies are satisfied with services delivered.
Companies are well aware of business opportunities in the assigned sectors.
Regular reports on business developments in Brazil relevant for Dutch policy and businesses.
Missions and trade promotion events are organized successfully.
Effective networks among Dutch and Brazilian state and municipality authorities, companies and other relevant organizations.
Sharing of knowledge with the Brazil economic network, contributions to Brazil-wide activities, reports and strategy development.
Keeping databases with company information up to date. Ensuring budgets & bilateral cooperation programs are well-managed.
Required working experience and knowledge

Master’s degree in a relevant field.*
Relevant working experience and network, affinity with economic diplomacy.
An antenna for commercial opportunities and good knowledge of relevant economic and political issues in Brazil.
Good communication and presentation skills.
Affinity with the Netherlands, or an interest to develop knowledge of Dutch business, economy and society.
Fluency in Portuguese and English, both written and orally, is a must and will be part of the assessment procedure.
Dutch people who want to apply should have a valid residency and work permit.

C. Working Environment
The Consulate General in São Paulo is the Netherlands government hub for Dutch (SME) businesses to the Brazilian states of São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul and Mato Grosso do Sul. It forms part of a Dutch economic network in Brazil, that includes the Embassy in Brasilia, the Consulate General in Rio de Janeiro and the Netherlands Business Support Offices (NBSO) in Belo Horizonte and Porto Alegre.

The Consulate General is an open and informal office in the Faria Lima district in Sao Paulo. The main tasks of the consulate are Consular affairs, Economic affairs (trade, innovation/technology-cooperation, acquisition) and Cultural affairs. The senior policy advisor is employed within the Economic Department which consists of one expatriate staff member and one local staff member. The senior policy advisor will report to the Head of the Department (deputy Consul General). He or she will collaborate regularly with all other staff in the Brazil network.

The wider economic team in Sao Paulo consists of eight people, including a Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency director (NFIA), an agricultural officer and a 3 people strong innovation department. The Consulate General currently employs 20 staff members in total.

The Senior Advisor will work in and from the consulate. The nature of the assignment regularly requires staff to work outside of normal working hours. Occasional travel is also foreseen.

*Economic sectors will be assigned to the economic policy officer in consultation with the network and depending on the background of the candidate. We specifically encourage people with backgrounds in fields related to urban development, architecture, sustainability, mobility, water resource management, energy efficiency, technology innovation, human and environmental health to reflect.
